Last week, on Friday we had the Book Week parade. Everybody
dressed up as their favourite book character. We had a wonderful parade. Two
classes at a time, students got up and walked around to show off their
tremendous costumes. The effort that was put into some of the costumes was
amazing. Everyone’s costumes looked phenomenal. Mr. Sanderson was playing music
during the parade and all of the students and teachers were clapping along.
Everybody also made speeches to convince their class mates to
love reading. The rest of the week, all classes had a huge focus on reading.
Teachers were reading to students and students were having quiet reading time
as well. Everybody had a really good time talking about their favourite books
and characters.

SCIENCE TABLOIDS
In our
wonderful school, we had our mind fizzing with all things ‘science’ during
Science Week. All of us Year Five
students split up into groups ready to take off and explore the galaxy of
science. In our newly formed groups we participated in a number of activities,
including: fantastic Floating and Sinking, Electricity Circuits and Marshmallow
Towers.
Floating and
Sinking = we got a tiny piece of modelling clay and we experimented if a clay
ball floats or sinks. After, we made a cup shape and tested if it floats or
sinks. In our cups we added tiny cube blocks to see how many cubes you can
place before it sinks.
Electricity
Circuits = in the next interesting activity we had to make a light globe glow
with only certain materials, testing to see which ones were conductors
(conducts electricity) and which materials were insulators (does not conduct
electricity).
Marshmallow
Tower = in this ‘mucky’ hands-on experiment we had to build a stable
marshmallow tower. Once you have completed it you had to leave it for at least
thirty seconds to test its stability.
All in all,
we had a fantastic day.
